Laboratory

A fire can happen anywhere, even in your lab! A fire in a laboratory setting can be more dangerous than a typical office fire due to the chemicals used in the lab. It is important to know how to respond to a fire. Please take time to review your lab’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for specific locations of fire protection systems in your lab and of any specific equipment shutdown procedures in the event of an emergency.

If you hear the fire alarm, do not disregard it! Evacuate the building using the nearest exit stairwell and gather at your labs assembly area. Evacuation procedures for labs in the Medical Sciences Building and HSIR towers are unique as they are "high rises" with special requirements. Learn specifics about high rise building evacuation here.

If you use heating equipment in your lab, please review this safety update on fire safety considerations for heating equipment.
