A list of what needs to and does not need to go into a chemical inventory.

What to include in your inventory What not to include  
All hazardous chemicals and chemical products (except those listed to the right) Etiologic agents (bacteria, viruses, select agents, and toxins)  
All compressed and liquefied gases Non-hazardous buffers and enzyme preparations  
Aerosol lubricants Working solutions made from chemicals already present in the chemical inventory  
Paints, including spray paints Biological culture media, agar, serum proteins, albumin  
Lubricants, fuels, and oils (motor oil, gasoline, diesel, vacuum pump oil) Hazardous waste  
Pesticides and biocides Small amounts of hazardous chemicals fully contained within a piece of equipment  
  Radioactive materials (unless mixed with hazardous chemicals)  
  Pre-packed test kits for clinical labs  
  Controlled substances regulated by the DEA
