Overview
The following matrix provides a summary of who may prepare and stamp fire sprinkler, fire alarm, and smoke control drawings as the Registered Design Professional (RDP), and the limitations applicable to NICET-certified personnel.

Bottom Line:
NICET certification demonstrates technical competency but does not authorize an individual to stamp or seal drawings in California. Only licensed California design professionals (Architects and Professional Engineers within their practice area) may affix professional seals. A C-16 or C-10 contractor may prepare certain design-build/shop drawings within the scope allowed by California law and the Authority Having Jurisdiction (DCFM), but contractor authority is not equivalent to professional engineering licensure.
