Overview

This page is for lab-related Fire safety.

A fire can happen anywhere, even in your lab! A fire in a laboratory setting can be more dangerous than a typical office fire due to the chemicals used in the lab. It is important to know how to respond to a fire. Please take some time to review your lab’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for specific locations of fire protection systems in your lab and of any specific equipment shutdown procedures in the event of an emergency.

If you hear the fire alarm, do not disregard it. Evacuate the building using the nearest exit stairwell and gather at your labs assembly area. Evacuation procedures for labs in the Medical Sciences Building and HSIR towers are different due to these buildings being high rises, you can find more information on high rise building evacuation here.

If you use heating equipment in your lab, please review this safety update on fire safety considerations for heating equipment.
