Top 100 Container Labels

Laboratory Safety Resource: Top 100 Container Labels

Instructions: Laboratory operations often require the transfer of chemicals from the original manufacturer’s container into a portable secondary container. Non-manufacturer-portable / secondary containers must be labeled with the full name of the hazardous chemical and associated hazards. Chemical abbreviations or formulas must not be used.

Exception: If the container is only to be used in the course of the procedure, is under sole control of user and will be disposed at the end of the procedure, there is no need for a label.

To assist labs in complying with this requirement, EH&S has developed a chemical label to identify the chemical identity and associated hazard (see UCSF Portable Container Label blank template)

Additionally, EH&S has developed Top 100 Chemical Labels to support UCSF laboratories in streamlining the compliance process. These templates can be readily printed on the Avery Form number 18163.
