The purpose of this manual is to describe the biological safety policies and procedures for UCSF. These policies and procedures are designed to safeguard personnel and the environment from inadvertent exposure or accidental release of biologically hazardous materials without unduly limiting academic freedom and to comply with federal and state regulatory requirements. All UCSF Principal Investigators (PIs) and laboratory workers must adhere to the campus biosafety policies and procedures in the conduct of their research and the management of their laboratories.
For information about specific biological safety programs or for operations not covered in this manual, contact the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) office, the Biosafety Officer (BSO), or your Environment, Health and Safety Specialist (EHS Specialist) at the UCSF Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S).
