OEH&S Hazardous Material Information

Radioactive Material Transportation

Most radioactive material at UCSF has a very low activity and a low risk factor. Many quantities are even exempt from regulation. However, if you are planning on transferring radioactive material to another site in the local area, its always a good idea to check with OEH&S for transporting guidance. OEH&S offers a radioactive material transportation service between authorized UCSF radioactive use facilities that complies with DOT regulations. Simply provide us with a list of materials that you are moving and then bring the material down to the OEH&S office at your location. We’ll make sure that it is properly packaged and deliver it to your specified destination the same day. See our Recharge Rates page for transporting costs. Call 476-1771 to arrange radioactive transportation.

Radioactive Material Shipping

Shipping radioactive samples to a colleague across the county? OEH&S will assist you with the packaging and documentation of your radioactive material. Send us your list of materials and we’ll prepare the appropriate shipping containers and documentation. OEH&S ships via only licensed and approved hazardous materials shippers such as Federal Express or Airborne Express. There is no OEH&S charge for this service- the only cost you pay is the shipper’s charge. Call 476-1771 to arrange radioactive shipping.
